Course Overview

Grief touches every life, yet the path through it can feel uncertain, lonely, or overwhelming. Hope After Loss is a compassionate, evidence-informed workshop designed to support individuals and professionals in understanding the complex emotions of grief — and finding strength, connection, and meaning after loss.

Drawing inspiration from Sir John Timpson’s A Positive Guide to Grief, and informed by clinical practice and trauma psychology, this workshop offers a gentle, human approach to healing. It validates each person’s unique experience of grief, while offering tools for resilience and emotional wellbeing.

This workshop is highly adaptable depending on the needs of the group:

If the audience includes helpers or those in supportive roles (such as care staff, therapists, educators, or volunteers), the session will focus on practical skills for supporting others through grief with empathy and emotional safety.

If the audience consists of individuals attending for personal development, the workshop will focus more deeply on self-awareness, shifting internal narratives, and finding renewed purpose after personal loss.

What You Will Learn

Understanding the Grieving Mind: Explore emotional, physical, and cognitive responses to grief — and why there’s no “right way” to grieve.

The Role of Love and Loss: Discover how attachment influences grief, and how ongoing bonds with the deceased can be healing, not harmful.

Finding Hope Again: Learn practical ways to support yourself and others through grief, using reflective exercises, self-care techniques, and communication tools.

Supporting with Sensitivity: For professionals and carers — how to hold space for others in grief with empathy, presence, and emotional boundaries.

Cultural & Individual Differences: Respect different grieving styles and practices across communities, families, and belief systems.
